The department had organised a lecture workshop on New frontiers of Biology on 10th and 11th March 2014. The workshop was organized in association with Science academies – IAS, NIAS abd NAS. The eminent personalities like Prof. S.K. Saidapur, Prof. H.A. Ranganath, Former Vice chancellor, Bangalore University, Prof. R. R. Rao, and Prof. K.R. Shivanna . the resource persons addressed the students and staff members of host and other colleges and enlightened us about emerging trends in Biology.
One day workshop on mushroom cultivation for II Sem BSc students :
The II semester students of CBZ and CBBt attended a workshop on Mushroom cultivation during this semester. The course commenced with demonstration on mushroom cultivaton by Mr. Gurumurthy who is a professional in the same field. . The demonstration was followed by a documentary on Mushroom cultilvation which was highly informative and interesting. The students were divided into batches and prepared mushroom cultures and kept for growth. The cultures were regularly monitored by them A good crop of mushrooms was harvested.
The botany department regularly organizes field trips and industrial visits to the students to enhance their practical exposure to the subject. In this academic year two field visits were organized to final B.Sc students of CBZ and CBBt.
- On 28th-30th September 2014 the students were taken to Dandeli to give an exposure about natural vegetation and collection of taxonomy specimens.
- On 21st January 2015 the final B.Sc. students were taken to Indian institute of Horticultural Research to give an exposure about current trends in molecular biology, Biotechnology, Post harvest technology, Mushroom lab, Soil science, Plant genetic resources and visited field demonstration unit to know recently developed horticultural crops. Smt. Roopashree M.G, lecturer in Department of Botany and Dr. Prathibha K.S. H.O.D of Biotechnology accompanied the students.
- On 21st January 2015 the students visited Hindusthan Uniliver to know various processes in bread and rusk making. The students were explained about different steps involved in bread making and quality testing. Smt. Roopashree M.G, lecturer in Department of Botany and Dr. Prathibha K.S.
